Captivated by the Cave Girl

By Hannah Wright

If you haven't heard of Stacey Cadman by now, you soon will.

She is the latest sensation to hit the small screen. Stacey, 20, is the star of Cavegirl, the new comedy drama dominating the schedules of Children's BBC this autumn.

"I only let myself wash it once a week, in order to make me feel more like a cave girl," she tells TV Plus.

Feisty, blonde and a petite five foot tall, Stacey is already being billed as a young Raquel Welch.

"I wanted to do it, and I managed to keep it up. It was really good for my hair, too. It's bad for it if you wash it every day.

And the fact that she has to wear as little as possible certainly helps.

"My hair's in really good condition now because of it."

While fame beckons, Stacey can't see the fuss herself. "I'm nothing like I look on the pictures of me," she says. "I play a lad - a tomboy, feisty, intelligent 15-year-old. I'm not sexy or anything. But it's a compliment!"

Filming the show in the rocky mountains near Cape Town was fantastic, says Stacey.

She has no qualms about playing a character five years younger than herself. "I'm 20-teen," she jokes. "I've got a brother of 12 and I act younger than him sometimes."

"The weather was so beautiful, it was such an amazing job to do," she tells TV Plus. "The crew and cast were absolutely fantastic, you couldn't ask for anything better.

Dressed in a fur bikini, micro skirt and huge animal skin boots, Stacey certainly looks the part.

"But it was hard work in terms of it being the very basics of living. There's no TV and phones don't work." The series took 12 weeks to shoot, split up into blocks.

A mass of back-combed blonde hair covers her shoulders, and if she scrunches up her face, she can look as menacing as the next cave dweller.

Throughout, Stacey managed to avoid all the nasty creepy crawlies on set. "I did see a couple of scorpions but I was quite lucky in that I only saw one spider," she says.

"I don't think the clothing's that revealing," insists Stacey. "I'm just wearing a skirt and a top. Because of the heat, I'm not going to wear a big fur coat. You're only wearing what is necessary."

"Everybody else seemed to see these spiders but I only saw one. I did get to hold a snake in one scene, but I really like snakes. I wouldn't have one as a pet but I think they're really nice!"

While Cavegirl is set in prehistoric times, the lot of the teenager is much the same.

While she'll soon recruit an army of fans, Stacey is set to break most of their hearts.

Set in the spectacular Cederberg Mountains, just north of Cape Town, Stacey Cadman plays the gorgeous "Stone Age sista".

"I have a boyfriend," reveals the stunning 20-year-old. "The time I spent filming Cavegirl was the longest we've spent apart. His name is Sasha Cohen, but he's not Ali G!"

"I loved playing her from the moment I did the first audition," she says. "She's just like a modern teenager. She's a rebel and she questions everything around her. She's feisty, intelligent and a bit of a tomboy."

She says she really loved doing the show, but says it isn't as raunchy as it looks. "When you watch it, it's a lot different. Don't judge it by the photographs you've seen."
